Blogger Spotlight: Laura Bray

Today I am doing a Blogger Spotlight entry -- something I haven't done in such a long time. For my first blogger feature for 2012, I am featuring Laura Bray of Wrinkle In Time Vintage

When I joined IFB just recently, Laura was one of the first people who sent me a message to welcome me in the community. She was really nice to introduce herself to me. The first time I visited her blog, I was captured by her beautiful photos. To me, they were really nice and pure. Her style is really cute too, it's something a lot of people can relate to. Right then, I knew she will go a long way.

So I asked Laura if I could feature her and she gladly said yes. And finally, here it is! I am pleasured to introduce to you Laura Bray. Read on to know more about her.

Tell us something about yourself.
My name is Laura, I'm nineteen years old and I live in Australia. I work in both a bookstore and a restaurant part time and I also intern for 'Harper's Bazaar Australia' which I absolutely LOVE! I'm hoping to one day work at a major high fashion magazine as either a writer or stylist or maybe both at different stages in my career.

Where did you go to College? What course did you finish?
I didn't go to University (which is what we call College in Australia) I never really wanted to study anything that required a formal education because I always knew that I wanted to work in fashion. I'm currently studying 'Fashion Business' at a private school in Sydney and I absolutely love it :)

What do you dream of becoming? or Have you become what you dreamt of becoming already?
I've always wanted to work as a professional blogger, so I guess I am on the road to achieving that, I have also always wanted to work at an Australian high fashion magazine either in styling or journalism.

Aside from Fashion, what are things that interest you?
I am such a nerd and I love to read so much! Because I work in a bookshop I have an endless supply of new books to read.

Fashion

When did you start blogging and how was it?
I started blogging in February of 2011. I started blogging because I was so inspired by seeing other female bloggers and I thought that it would be something that incoorparates my love of writing, photography and personal style!

How would you define your style?
I'd say my style is neat, I hate wearing over sized clothes. I also always try and work in a little bit of old school elegance into my outfits. I love vintage and I always try and incoorparate some into all my outfits.

When did you first become interested in fashion?
I can't really pin point a precise moment I became interested in fashion, all I can really remember is reading Vogue in the first years of highschool and realising that nobody else was remotely interested in the gorgeous editorials and articles on designers! So I guess that was the moment I realised that my interests were obviously different from other girls my age.

Who influences you the most and Why? (fashion-wise)
I feel really influenced by my fellow bloggers, I love seeing what all my favourite ones are wearing and then trying to create something similar and then adding my own little twist. I try to not let myself be too influenced by other people thought because personal style can only be 'personal' if it truly is your own!

Who are your favorite fashion designers?
I cannot begin to describe how much I adore Alexander McQueen, he was such a genius and I'm so sad he left us before I got a chance to meet him. I also love Life With Bird which is an Australian brand and they always show such gorgeous feminine pieces in wonderful pastel shades.

What are your top 5 closet-must haves?
Black maxi skirt, fitted blazer, fun summer dress, black skater skirt and some completely impractical shoes.
What are top 5 things you can't leave your house without? Phone, water bottle, band-aids (for those nasty blisters from your impractical shoes), a good book and a quality chap stick.

Beauty

How do you take care of your skin?
I am quite honestly the laziest person when it comes to beauty, I can spend two hours putting together an outfit but my beauty routine takes less than five minutes. I wash my face with a gentle Dove face wash, tone with an aloe vera and witch hazel toner and then moisturize with this fantastic moisturizers from Jojoba.

What products do you use? (lotion, make-up, etc.)
I don't wear a lot of make-up unless I'm doing a really special photoshoot in which case I use a powder foundation by 'Nude by Nature' and 'Natio' mascara.

Others

Who usually takes your photos for the blog?
My wonderful mother takes all my outfit shots.

What camera (model, lens, etc.) do you use and how do you usually set it?
I use a Nikon D700 with a 70-200mm Nikkor lens. I don't really play around with the settings alot, I set my exposure level to +0.3 to ensure I always get nice light shots and then I normally just rely on nice natural lighting to pull me through

What advice can you give to all aspiring fashion bloggers?
As hard as it can be sometimes, the best thing you can do for yourself and for your blog to be 100% you! It can be so tempting to mimic what you see other popular bloggers doing, but you have to remember that no one is better at being themselves than themselves! So if you're trying to be someone else than you are just setting yourself up for failure.

Over all, Laura's a girl worth watching for. You all must visit her blog. (Hi Laura, if you are reading this! Thank you!) So there you go, I hope you  all had a great time reading this feature as much as I do. By the way, I've been extremely lazy these days and my exams were major fail. I'm frightened to see the results!

To all Chinese people out there, Xinnian kuaile! Gong Xi Fa Cai! Don't forget to prepare your sticky rice, meat balls, and red outfits! (Yes, I have tiny bit of Chinese blood). Let's all have a prosperous new year! :)
